Take care of your jewelry
Care instructions for silver jewelry
Silver is a durable material, and its silver color does not fade over time, but it generally darkens with the years.
Silver reacts with substances such as hydrogen sulfide and oxygen, which are found in the air, on the skin, in textiles, in perfumes, and in certain skin creams. Silver jewelry stored together with other silver products tends to oxidize faster.
It is best to store all your silver jewelry separately, preferably in soft fabric pouches. This protects against discoloration and prevents the jewelry from scratching each other!
In summary, silver is a very durable material and is therefore suitable for activities such as bathing, showering, or exercising.
Silver is one of the most used metals in the world. In its purest form, silver is so soft that it cannot be used directly in jewelry making. Therefore, an alloy, a mixture with another metal, usually copper, is often used to give the silver extra strength and durability. This special mixture of silver and copper is known as Sterling Silver 925.
To be classified as genuine silver, silver jewelry must contain at least 92.5% silver.
To quickly and easily clean your silver jewelry, there are several options.
At L8Hasselblad, we polish all our jewelry with a polishing cloth and find that it works great.

Another option is to use dish soap. Here are the steps:
- Mix a few drops of dish soap with a few drops of water to create a foaming lather.
- Let your jewelry have a nice bath in the foaming mixture.
- Then rinse the jewelry thoroughly under lukewarm running water.
- Dry your silver jewelry completely with a soft cotton cloth.
- To restore the shine, you can finish by using a silver polishing cloth (available for purchase on our website under "miscellaneous" & in our store)
NOTE! When it comes to gold-plated jewelry, you should avoid using silver polish, as it can damage the gold coating and cause it to wear off.
Care instructions for jewelry in gold double
Jewelry in gold vermeil is made of brass with an 18 karat gold layer on it.
With normal use, the gold on the surface can wear off over time. When it wears off, the color of the brass will show through.
We therefore recommend taking off your jewelry when swimming, showering, or exercising.
It is important to avoid using silver polish on gold-plated jewelry as it can damage the gold plating and cause it to wear off.
